The inspiration for this rather uncommon effect came from a trip to Yellowstone National Park.
The Abyss Action
Description
What I have tried to recreate is the appearance of the steaming (non-erupting) geysers, also known as fumaroles, into which you can look down through the hot sulferic liquid into some other-worldly abyss. The action completes with seperate layers for the border, center, steam, and background. All these layers are moved into a handy layer set for easy manipulation.
